Although I draw on different techniques to help a client achieve her goals, my overall approach is person-centered. Each individual has a unique view of the world and it is from that view I approach therapy. What the client thinks and believes is the basis for making the change(s) the client is seeking. I offer a non-judgmental, accepting environment and view my role as a fellow traveler helping others overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Past clients have commented that after completing therapy with me, they feel confident in reaching their goals and helping others who are struggling with similar issues.

More Info About My Practice

I work with clients who are female-identified. I specifically work with clients who experience mood swings, feel unable to control self-expression and/or behaviors, are having difficulty in interpersonal relationships, or find it difficult to keep a job. I also work with clients who have been mandated by the court to seek therapy.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

The purpose of psychotherapy is to help individuals with issues that exceed their skillsets. As human beings, we are taught how to get through day to day life. However, life often throws us curveballs that neither we nor our support group is able to adequately address. Therapists are trained to help clients understand and overcome the curveballs that occur throughout life.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

I liken therapy to maintaining a car. When a car is not running well, we take the car to a mechanic, the mechanic diagnoses the issue, and then the mechanic fixes the issue.

Similar to a mechanic, a therapist is trained to help individuals identify underlying issues and make plans to overcome those issues. Unlike a mechanic who fixes the issue, the therapist facilitates the client's ability to fix the issue and reach her goals.
