My Approach to Helping
My approach to therapy is client-centered, and your needs and goals for therapy will guide the course of our work together. My primary intent is to provide a comfortable safe space where you can process the issues that you want to improve in your life. I believe that we all contain our own answers, and I will do my best to help you to clarify your goals and identify and dissolve any blocks that may be standing in the way of your own guidance. Sometimes just having someone supportive to talk to who is outside of the everyday relationships of your life can give the added perspective and confidence you need to handle situations in new and more rewarding ways. I hope to reflect back to you your own desires and priorities, and in speaking with an objective listener, you may be able to realize more about what you really want to do both now and in the long term, and become more in touch with your own strengths and abilities. I will listen with respect and encourage your progress while working with you at your pace. Together we can set up both short term objectives and long range plans, building on small successes step by step to help you reach your broader goals and visions.
More Info About My Practice
My fees for a standard 50 minute therapy session are $110 for teens and adults, and $90 for children 12 and younger. I accept debit and credit cards, cash, or Venmo, payable at the time of the session.
I do not accept insurance at this time. If your insurance company will reimburse you after payment of services. I can provide you with a "superbill" receipt that you can send to them.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have an ability to connect with children of all ages, using art, play, and sand play to help them express their feelings, improve their self-esteem and sense of well-being, and encourage new behavioral patterns. Many children benefit from having a trusted adult they can feel safe with talking to, someone who cares about them while still being outside of the family or social school environment that may be challenging for them. I also can help facilitate better communication between children and their parents or their caregivers or family members, helping all parties to express their needs to each other and come to agreements about new ways to interact that work for the health and balance of the family.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
Most people like to start with coming to therapy weekly, because at the beginning of counseling inner and outer change often starts to happen quickly, and they like to check in and monitor their progress to help process new feelings and situations as they evolve. As their initial goals are reached they may decrease frequency to every other week, and then to once a month, or return only on an as needed basis. Some people choose to continue to attend weekly or biweekly, as they identify new goals, or just to have a supportive outside party to touch base with regarding the ongoing issues they are facing in life. I am very flexible in my scheduling. I will respect your timing and can be available for a consultation or check in session as needed, even after we've finished our primary course of therapy.
