My Approach to Helping
It is my goal to provide a supportive and safe environment for clients to address their concerns. Therefore, I strive to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship that is based on acceptance, respect, trust, and encouragement. I work from a client centered perspective to assist clients achieve their goals. I believe in exploring family of origin as it relates to the present struggles one might be experiencing. I also believe in identifying and utilizing strengths in order to draw from these to overcome current challenges. I use a holistic approach which takes into account biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions. I believe that individuals have a natural tendency towards growth and that change is possible. The goals of counseling are individualized to each specific person and may change throughout the process. I believe by better understanding self we are able to understand personal beliefs and how they impact our lives. In addition, gaining self awareness provides insight into patterns that may create difficulties in relationships and work. The impact of our own family of origin and the patterns we learn teach us how to be in the world. Sometimes that which we learned in our own family can present difficulties in our present lives.
