My Approach to Helping
I am a psychotherapist and creative arts counselor who specializes in helping adults and adolescents who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, romantic attachment, sleep, identity, artisticcareer blocks, loneliness, and life transitions. I have extensive experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault and within the LGBTQ+ and kink communities. I adapt evidence-based therapy techniques for individual needs, including CBT, DBT, psychoanalysis, mindfulness and distress tolerance skills, and arts therapies. I strive to create a compassionate environment rooted in trust, warmth, and partnership.
It is important to me that you feel understood. I believe there are reasons for every decision we make—you revisit maladaptive coping mechanisms (ie: returning to exes, avoiding tasks) because they work at providing temporary relief. Even in your darkest moments you love yourself enough to want to stop yourself from experiencing intolerable pain.
Diagnoses isn’t a necessary component of every treatment, but many of the clients I work with find that it can be an opportunity for relief, healing, community, and validation. Diagnosis is a tool that helps to identify practices that others with similar ways of experiencing the world have found instrumental in improving their quality of life.
