My Approach to Helping

Everyone can benefit from therapy. The client is the expert on their feelings and experiences, and, with the assistance of a therapist, the client can understand and make sense of those feelings and experiences. Therapists have the tools and ability to teach skills that the client needs to control/change/redirect/understand their feelings and actions so that they can get the most out of life and truly enjoy day to day living. I am your agent of change, your second set of eyes to look at life with you and help you deal with everything in it more effectively.

I accept Aetna, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Cofinity, Humana, Meridian, McClaren, Optum/UBH, Priority, PAI, TriCare, United Health Care, and numerous EAP's such as Beacon Health/Value Options, New Directions, Reliant Behavioral Health, and EAP Consultants. If you do not have insurance coverage for mental health treatment, I have a sliding scale fee for cash pay clients starting at $70 per 50 minute session. I can accept cash, charge cards including health savings accounts, checks, and payment by PayPal on my website. The office is conveniently located on West Main St. in Kalamazoo just off US 131 and is on the bus line with stops on both sides of the street. Appointments are offered from 9 AM to 9 PM and weekend sessions are available.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

Much of the progress in therapy is achieved because of the therapeutic relationship between client and counselor. If you have had a negative therapy experience, you may not have found the "best fit" with a counselor. Try another therapist to find a better fit and don't stop until you do. You WILL find the counselor who hears and understands you so that you will have a positive therapy experience AND achieve the change in your life that you are seeking.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Going to therapy does NOT mean you are "crazy." Sometimes we lose perspective on things because we are so close to them or friends and family are telling you what they think you want to hear instead of what you need to hear. I have that unbiased perspective and can assist you in seeing things from that viewpoint. In addition, everyone has strengths and skills but they may not know that they have them or how to use them to make their life more fulfilling. Therapy can assist you in identifying these strengths and skills and help you learn how to use them. Every person can benefit from having another person hear their life story and support them in moving forward in life, even if it is to just say, "hey, that happens to a lot of people; you're not alone in the world with this."
