My Approach to Helping

Welcome, your healing journey starts now! I am Dr. Fernandez, or you can call me Laura. I am a licensed psychologist and the owner and founder of Mindful Freedom Psychological Services. Corp; a name derived from my passion for helping others set boundaries and assert themselves in order to regain emotional and personal freedom. If you are experiencing frequent guilt, depression, anxiety, burnout, or feeling emptyunfulfilled; my mission is to help you identify and work through the barriers that oftentimes keep us stuck in toxic relationships and unfulfilling lives.

I offer services in English and in Spanish (Hablo Espanol). I work with adults and geriatrics conducting Bariatric, Spinal Cord, and Cognitive Assessments as well as Psychotherapy. I treat and diagnose disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, etc. I enjoy working with LBGT, minorities, and those who have experienced trauma and burnout due to toxic relationships, racial discrimination, or narcissistic abuse.
If you are ready to change your life, remember, this may be the single small step that drives you towards a big change in life. You have nothing to lose, except for an opportunity to learn more about yourself and the world around you. Questions? Please send me an email and I am happy to assist you. I hope to see you soon! Laura.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

You are not alone! so have many others. Remember, just like any other relationship, the relationship with your therapist is based on many factors like chemistry, cummunication; and just like personal relationships can go wrong, so can professional relationships. My commitment to new clients, particularly during the first session is to help set you up for success by addressing the following in detail:
1. key components of successful therapy
2. how to make the best out of your therapy sessions
3. Addressing concerns related to prior negative therapist-client interactions
4. Providing you with specific examples of prior negative experiences I myself and some of my patients have had with providers; and how to use such experiences to learn from them and improve future ones.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

The benefits of psychotherapy far outweigh the risks of attending a single therapy session. If you are concerned about therapy, try it once. There is nothing to lose other than perhaps a few bucks and an hour. Think about how much more time and money we spend on trivial things, while spending some time evaluating if therapy is for you can lead to potentially life changing results in the long term. If you are concerned about therapy, inform your provider during the FIRST session so that your concerns can be addressed. Most importantly, know that MANY OTHERS are also concerned when they first start therapy. Some of the most common concerns are: privacy, stigma, being "weak," and "Fear of judgment from the therapist." Please know that most of these conerns are the barriers that stand between the person you are now, and the person you want and deserve to be! These barriers can be overcome, take a leap of faith... see you in session!
