My Approach to Helping
For those of us who’ve dedicated our lives to helping others, it can be easy for the stresses of life to sneak up on us. Because we devote our attention to the needs of others, sometimes we don’t notice our own until we feel completely overwhelmed and exhausted. Vicarious trauma can really undercut the work you want to be a part of and steal your joy and energy. But therapy offers a space for healing and growth. I’ll typically start working with you at the physical level, helping you learn to regulate how your body feels through effective self-calming strategies and techniques. We’ll explore how and when you lose the ability to stay calm and clear in the midst of difficulty, whether that looks like ramping up or shutting down when overstressed. Through a variety of therapeutic interventions, you’ll grow in your ability to weather the storm.
I have been in the business of exploring happiness for the last 25 years. I believe that all people have some ways of coping that are helpful to them and others that are not working. It’s pretty human to have cultivated a mix of healthy and problematic ways of dealing with the stresses of life - I’m here to help you think about what is not working and ways to fill the gaps. We can all improve our abilities to face life’s challenges.
