My Approach to Helping

Things in life have become even more difficult to navigate, such as finding time to process our feelings and repair ruptures in our lives and relationships. The world changing and our ability to connect to others has significant impact on us. I am curious about your world, how you experience it, how you connect to it, and your desire to make positive changes. My approach during our sessions to use active listening, ask questions to gain knowledge, with a focus on compassion without judgement. My clients appreciate my willingness to ask direct questions, as well as my honesty and sense of humor. We will collaborate to develop and refine goals that meet your values and needs. We will also work together to identify and connect to your strengths and support systems, and give you tools to cope during difficult times. My experience includes working with adults struggling with anxiety, negative communication patterns, relational and intimacy issues, domestic violence, divorce and parenting issues. I draw from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models. My desire is to help you process the feelings you easily access during time of feeling stuck and sometimes lonely, and help you in your journey toward healing.

More Info About My Practice

I earned my Master’s degree in Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling from Portland State University. I employ my training in Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, Family Systems, and the Gottman Method in my approach to the counseling process, as well as other person-centered and existential therapeutic interventions. In addition to couples work, I have a background in working with individuals and families adjusting to divorce, trauma, and co-‐parenting issues. I also have ten years experience of crisis counseling with victims of domestic violence and four years of supervising counseling interns in a learning clinic.
