I have been a practicing psychologist for 25 years. During that time, I have worked with individuals of all ages and a wide variety of issues. More recently I have begun to focus my practice on working with individuals who have been impacted by toxic stress and/or trauma, defined in the most general sense. Trauma refers to experiences that occurred in childhood or adulthood, including but not limited to any kind of victimization at the hands of others, neglect by caregivers, events that caused personal harm, extreme fear or the threat of death and/or circumstances that dramatically changed one's life for the worse.

More Info About My Practice

As part of my specialized approach to treating these conditions, I have been a student of the trauma field intensively for the last several years and have come to understand that traditional "talk therapy", by itself, is often ineffective in treating trauma because it does not take into account the fact that trauma memories are not stored like other memories and that the actual experience of trauma is primarily stored in the body. For this reason, I have sought specialized training in approaches such as Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which access the primitive parts of the brain that got stuck in survival modes, the nervous system that became chronically dysregulated and the body which continues to give us clues about what needs to be processed. We know now that chronic health problems in adulthood are strongly related to what has happened to an individual during their life and we also know that there is still considerable opportunity, regardless of your age, to change the patterns of our brain and our nervous systems in order to lead more comfortable and contented lives. During our 30 minute free consultation, I will provide more information about my gentle, safe and effective approach to helping you heal.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

As an individual who has lived with autoimmune difficulties for the last 25 years, I have a personal lens on what it is like to live with a chronic condition. I am aware how difficult it is to find professionals that understand chronic health conditions, particularly those that are not well defined and that are surrounded by stigma. For this reason, I am interested in providing you with the type of therapy experience that I myself would want.
