My Approach to Helping
I am a Peruvian-American therapist living and working on the westside of Los Angeles. I welcome Spanish & English speaking individuals, couples, families! Many things have led to me to this field, the primary one being: I want to hold space for people so they can heal. I believe that behind each difficult emotion or experience, there is a valuable lesson about who we are. In the midst of dealing with the overwhelm of life, our humanity is needing connection, compassion and acceptance. In the therapeutic space, I offer not only a "witnessing" of your humanity, but also a non judgmental look into how you came to be, so that feelings can be felt and not shut out. By inviting these "negative feelings" in, I allow people to be seen right where they are at. This compassionate approach rebuilds the relationship with yourself and gets to the root of change.
I believe change does not come from saying "this is where I want to be and I'm not there now," but change happens when we start to understand the purpose a behavior or feeling serves within us. If we can start to reframe our behaviors as adaptive to our experiences in life, then we can begin to have immense compassion and acceptance for who we are right now.
When we understand ourselves and how we have adapted to our pain, trauma or life experience, the need to repeat unhealthy behaviors or exacerbate negative feelings decreases. I am here to collaborate with you on how to rebuild the relationship with yourself by using all parts of you, the negative and positive and everything in between.
