My Approach to Helping
Have you been experiencing anxiety, stress, or worry? I can teach you to feel relaxed and productive using proven methods based on over ten years of experience.
Life can be challenging. Sometimes it can be helpful to have support from someone who is trained to help you create the changes you want to see in your life. If you are experiencing stressful thoughts and feelings, know that it is possible to change. I will show you very practical steps, grounded in the present moment, that can help you feel at peace, centered, and focused. The best time to address worry, fear, or discomfort is always now.
I have provided Individual Therapy for Adults since 2006. My specialties include Anxiety & Mindfulness, Communication Skills, Physician Stress Management, and Online Video Counseling. Additionally, I utilize evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help replace non-productive thoughts to help you feel more grounded and focused.
My approach is Supportive, Empathic, and Practical. I both listen deeply and provide you with useful tools that can be practiced outside of our sessions so that you become self-reliant to manage and reduce your own stressors. The practices that I will share with you are those that I have practiced myself. They have helped me tremendously and have helped hundreds of my clients.

More Info About My Practice
Video counseling provides a way that you can receive the help you need from your own home (or wherever you are). Video counseling provides a secure and confidential way for you to resolve problems, such as stress and anxiety, and achieve goals. For video conferencing, all you need is a device (e.g. smartphone, tablet, computer) with a camera and broadband internet access. Several studies have shown that video therapy is just as effective or more effective when compared to face-to-face counseling.
Video counseling is ideal for individuals with a full schedule who want to remove the time spent traveling to see a therapist. Also, if you travel for work, you can receive therapy from wherever you are in the world as long as you have a computing device and internet. Video counseling provides unparalleled convenience so you can get support where and when it works for you.
As a licensed counselor in California, I am able to provide individual therapy for adults by video conferencing for residents of California. I have counseled clients since 2006 at college counseling centers, in private practice, and through video therapy. I have found both in-person and online formats to be equally effective for helping individuals address problems and goals, and research verifies my personal experience.
My approach uses evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness counseling to achieve emotional and behavioral outcomes such as becoming grounded, balanced, and productive. My methods are simple to learn and can be applied immediately. You can expect to acquire lifelong skills both to help you address current challenges and prevent future problems.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Physician stress management can help you achieve the following goals:
- Address anxiety about patient outcomes and career choices
- Cope with stress regarding self-confidence and feeling competent
- Let go of worry about judgment from peers and patients
- Stop overthinking and second-guessing your decision-making between shifts
- Cope with feeling isolated and out-of-balance due to long, unpredictable work hours
- Overcome communication difficulties with patients, physicians, nurses, and family members
As a physician, your risks and responsibilities can feel overwhelming at times. To make it more challenging, long, unpredictable work hours may make it hard to find time to rejuvenate. In balancing multiple work and family responsibilities, you may find your own needs are not being met. Also, you might not have a support system in place to help you process adverse outcomes with patients and their families. Finally, work stress may spillover into your personal relationships and create dysfunctional patterns in communication. You take care of others, but who is taking care of you?
Counseling provides a structured opportunity for you to focus on your own mental health and personal goals. Whether it be anxiety, stress, worry, overthinking, or communication, counseling provides the space you need to process and learn what can help you feel more relaxed, focused, and productive.
I am licensed and have provided counseling since 2006. My strong interest for counseling physicians began with witnessing the challenges my wife and her cohorts faced through medical school, residency, fellowship, and the transition to becoming an attending physician.
My experience with providing therapy for physicians includes video counseling. I am licensed to provide video counseling to residents throughout California. Research suggests that video counseling may be as effective as in-person treatment, and my experience concurs with this conclusion. Video counseling can be ideal for individuals with a full schedule.
My approach employs the evidence-based practices of Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Mindfulness can help you learn to become grounded, comfortable, and mentally clear. CBT can help you adopt more useful perspectives. To reinforce interpersonal awareness, I emphasize communication skills and have taught college courses in Interpersonal Communication and Public Speaking. I also utilize the teachings of Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie, which are designed to help you appreciate the present moment and reinforce a joyful, peaceful way of being.
The methods I utilize are straightforward and can be practically applied right away to challenges you are facing at work and at home. These techniques are devised both to help you change as efficiently in the short term and also help you achieve optimal performance in the long run.
