My Approach to Helping

I work with people who are feeling lost, who are under great distress, maybe feeling emotionally overwhelmed. Whether you are experiencing panic attacks, struggling to make it through the day, having difficulty interacting with others, or grieving a loss, when you and I work together our goals will be to help you feel less pain, improve your understanding of yourself and your situation, and to create change that allows you to flourish and grow.

When I work with you, I work to create an environment and to facilitate conversations which allow you to truly experience and express what is happening inside you, perhaps for the first time. Being able to really see and to express these things can be transformational. Together we will help you to identify what it is you want in life, and to develop the behaviors and skills you need to begin moving in that direction.

I don't bring the same approach to every person I work with. My goal is to take the time to really hear what you are saying, and to then decide together on your goals in counseling. I will use what I know about effective tools for change to help you reach those goals.

Right now today, if you are in pain or distress, struggling to know what to do, or wondering deeply about yourself, reach out and connect with me. You deserve the time, the space, and the help to address your needs.

I am available for in-person sessions here in a convenient and quiet spot in downtown Brunswick.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

I am sorry when I hear how many people have had a negative experience in therapy. Not only does it harm you, but it makes you less willing to reach out for help again. One of the things I will ask you the first time we talk is what were your experiences with previous therapists, what worked for you and what did not work for you. Therapy is for you, and it should always be designed for your benefit. My priority is to hear you and understand you, to never dismiss your experience or feelings, and to always address it if I make a mistake and harm you in any way.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I came to the counseling profession not only with a lifetime of learning and growth, but with a lifetime of struggle and mistakes. You and I sit together in the counseling room as two fellow human beings. My training allows me to offer you useful support and tools, but I feel that my ability to recognize your struggles and pain as also a part of my human experience allows me to connect with you in a way that I hope helps you to feel seen and understood.
