My Approach to Helping

"I didn't think life was going to be this hard"- that's what I hear from my 20-something clients who are trying to figure out how to "adult". You are so brave, and I know you don't feel that way right now. Showing up and starting is the hardest part when life is overwhelming, and you've already done that by being here. You're here because life is getting to much for you. You feel like you can't narrow down your symptoms to one category because you feel ALL of the things, maybe even all at the same time. Confusion, stress, pain, heartbreak, fear, loneliness, sadness and anger are your normal. Because when you've experienced hard, difficult things in your life, those feelings ARE normal. You're tired of "faking" being ok as life has become overwhelming. When was the last time you felt confident and present, able to be ENOUGH for yourself and others? Or just free to take care of YOU without guilt?
How amazing would it be to feel at home in your own body, or even confident? Instead of taking care of everyone else you could focus on YOU? What if you could feel your emotions without numbing them or hiding from them? I specialize in working with young people who are struggling to navigate work, school, relationships and themselves due to past pain. That junk from childhoodadolescence didn't disappear, and that is what you want to forget about the most.
None of us are supposed do this life on our own, not even me! My Certified Therapy Dog joins us in session as my co-therapist. Yes, unlocking your past is scary, and unraveling your emotions is daunting. That's what I do: help you make sense of the mess. Check out my website and send me an email for a free 15 min consult! You don't have to be alone anymore.

More Info About My Practice

Life can go differently from now on.
It’s ok to need help. And its so brave to seek out help. I love working with brave people, like you.
I want you to be able to feel present and whole in your relationships, but most importantly with yourself.
I can help you work towards the life you always thought you’d have, if things hadn’t gone so wrong along the way.
By the way- I'm pretty fierce about your worth. I'm direct and solution-oriented, because I want you to see your results. I fight hard for you- but only as hard as you're willing to fight for yourself.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

Guess what- there's nothing wrong with you. Yep, I said it, and I mean it.
You aren't the sum of your symptoms. You aren't a diagnosis or a label. I don't care about whats "wrong with you" because I'm more concerned with "what happened to you" in your life. You weren't born stressed and anxious and depressed. Something happened, and you developed those mal-adaptive coping skills and symptoms. Therapy can fix that.

Groups I Work With

Who I Am: Hi I’m Kelly! I’m a psychotherapist, but you might also call me a part time mermaid or a heart-coach. I don’t take life too seriously but I know life is serious work.rnWho I See: I work with people who dream of feeling secure in both their bodies and relationships but are buried under stress, obligation to take care of everyone else, and the ghosts of their past. My clients are the ones who put on a confident face for everyone while wishing they actually felt that way.rnWhat I Do: My job is to teach them how to make sense of their emotions and pain so that they can build confidence, create healthy boundaries in relationships, and feel truly alive and engaged with their world. I know from working with my clients that it is scary to open up and trust a stranger or therapist when so many people have disappointed them throughout their lives. But I also know that my clients are always the bravest people in the room even when they don’t realize it.rnWhy I Do It: I believe that spiritual and emotional healing, self-care, and respect for self and others will change the world. I also know that I am good at what I do.And helping you figure out the complicated and messy pieces of your life is what I do best. That’s why I hope you will reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are the right fit to do this important work together.
