My Approach to Helping
When we’re hurt in a relationship, whether by mistreatment, neglect, invalidation, rejection, or abandonment, we feel disconnected from ourselves and others, detached from those with whom we want to attach. We can begin to think we are that disconnection itself, and it is too painful to be with ourselves, to be embodied, or feel our feelings. We end up living in an unbalanced, reactive state of fight-flight-anxiety or stuck in a freeze state-depression or shut-down. These looping effects of trauma -an emotional reaction to something distressing- can create enduring shadows that stretch across our lives.
I help my clients see unconscious life patterns- ways that they adapt to the effects of trauma that sabotage their sense of self and jeopardize their capacity for relationships. We work together to rebalance the nervous system, increasing your ability to be embodied and be present for yourself and others, to experience more completeness, joy, and connection.
Wounding causes us to live from a defended place with grief and anxieties, seeking any way to avoid or relieve the pain. Therapy is the reparative process of healing in a relationship and again living from our "true," authentic self, with more adaptability, resilience, and creativity.
