My Approach to Helping
Hi there - My name is Kelley, and I am a Couples and Relationship Counselor.
I see the therapeutic process as a psychological adventure. It\'s a safe space to explore all kinds of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and emotions - including laughter, joy, and celebration. As a former professional comedian, sketch & improv actor, and comedy writer-director for 20-something years, I have found humor to be one of the most powerful healing tools because it allows my clients - both individuals and couples - to explore their personal and professional challenges, quirks, and shenanigans with lightness and curiosity, rather than heaviness and judgment. I mean, really, life is way too short for all that brutal stuff...AND...it\'s sooo not helpful!
More Info About My Practice
As a couples and relationship therapist, I help couples, business partners, families, groups and actively dating singles deal with communication struggles, sex, and intimacy issues, as well as a menagerie of pesky obstacles that get in the way of meaningful relationships
Although there are many popular relationship theories, I have chosen John Gottman\'s evidence-based couples\' therapy model. Evidenced-based is just a schmancy way of saying \"scientific\"- meaning that Gottman\'s techniques have been tested in a laboratory with an assortment of couples spanning 50 + years.
Relationship counseling can certainly be a lot of work, no question about it, but it doesn\'t always have to be a twisted vortex from hell. In my couples\' and relationship sessions, I incorporate Gottman\'s tools with a mixture of creative techniques, action-methods, and humor. So, whether you\'re married, in a serious relationship, actively dating, or have issues with a family member, co-worker, or your bandmates, relationship and couples counseling can help you take your relationships to the next level.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
A great psychotherapist can help you understand why you do the things you do - without judgment or feeling terrible about yourself! In addition, the therapeutic process can help you develop new skills, healthier habits and more effective ways to cope with life's daily struggles. Together we will design a roadmap to help you understand your problems and then create and execute some effective solutions.
