My Approach to Helping

Do you find yourself anxious, worrying a lot, highly stressed, overwhelmed, or having a hard time sleeping? Perhaps you are experiencing some major changes happening in your life and wondering if counseling might be helpful. It can be overwhelming trying to find a therapist and someone that you feel comfortable talking to. The fit between client and therapist is important and essential in building a therapeutic relationship. My goal is to provide and hold a safe space for you - ultimately leading to self-growth and improved functioning. I enjoy working with people who may be experiencing anxiety, mood difficulties, life transitions and looking towards implementing a plan of self-care.

We will utilize the concept of developing self-compassion to allow you to feel empowered towards taking action. We will help you develop coping skills and other strategies to work through negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors you may experience that no longer serve you. My approach is strength based and collaborative as we will focus on your personal goals.

I am also a licensed massage therapist in the state of Maine which has allowed me to have a strong understanding of the role that stress can have on the body. The importance of the mind-body connection is necessary to acknowledge in stress reduction. We can work together to come up with accessible tools and techniques that you can take away with you. How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

When struggling there is always the hope that there is a magic pill that will solve all of the problems and discomfort we may be experiencing. My own experiencing of dealing with chronic anxiety- has helped me develop a more holistic viewpoint that there are several tactics and strategies helpful in managing symptoms. This may include getting enough sleep on a regular basis, hydrating, having a couple of solid coping skills, a strong support network and so on. The reality is that putting all this into place can be disorienting and discouraging. Having a therapist can be helpful in exploring our thoughts, behaviors and actions- and putting into place habits that will help us reach our greater goals. I practice from a realistic viewpoint, and that changes need to be made small and sustainable over time. We are all trying the best we can- and some weeks may be harder than others. Let us build on your successes rather than failures. I have found this to be useful viewpoint to take in my own personal growth.
