My Approach to Helping

I approach therapy as a way to help you fundamentally change the way you relate to yourself by breaking free from the burden of impossible standards, overwhelming emotions, and unhealthy coping styles. I see my role as helping you to examine your own experiences and identify unhelpful patterns in order to find new alternatives. Working together, we can find new ways of coping with the stresses of everyday life that allow you to live a more vital and authentic life, one that is more in touch with your own core values. I believe that this kind of work is fundamentally about liberation from the doubts and fears that stop you from living your own best life.

My therapy style is informed by feminist relational models, as well as DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I also utilize social justice frameworks and work from an approach of cultural humility and respect for diversity. I have experience with meditation and mindfulness-based approaches and integrate meditation into my practice if desired by the individual I am seeing.

I believe a good therapeutic relationship is a crucial aspect of how therapy helps. I trust that individuals will move towards growth and wellness naturally if given the proper environment to do so - namely a supportive, engaged environment in which to practice vulnerability and authenticity. Once we are in touch with our inner wants and needs, we can more easily move towards what is truly important to us, rather than trying to satisfy ourselves with doing what we think is expected.
