My Approach to Helping
I am so glad that you are considering therapy to support you on your journey to and through motherhood.
Deciding to build your family is a life changing decision and a time filled with transition. Some of the changes are welcomed with open arms and excitement while other changes may bring up uncomfortable emotions that are difficult to process and cope with.
Serving women and their support team is near and dear to my heart and soul because I too, have a journey to and through motherhood that is filled with anxiety, depression, loss, frustration, joy and hope. I have personal experience with infertility, pregnancy loss, and postpartum depression. It was with the help of professional support, therapy, and family support that I was able to heal. Now, knowing what I know, my passion is to help women and their support teams receive mental health care during this time in their life. I want women to feel validated, be free from fear, find peace, and heal so that they can bloom into the healthy women they are meant to be.
My name is Katie Lourenco and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In addition to my personal experience with reproductive and maternal mental health stressors I also have extensive training in these fields. I am a member of Postpartum Support International and I have earned the Perinatal Mental Health Certificate (PMH-C) I am also a member of Resolve and American Society of Reproductive Medicine. I have over 15 years of experience in the field of Mental Health. I use a mindful and cognitive behavioral approach in my sessions with a strong emphases on self-compassion work.
Do you find yourself struggling with building your family and you feel angry, sad, hopeless, confused, or scared that your dreams will not be fulfilled? All of these emotionally distressing experiences are very common on the journey to and through motherhood. As a result you may find that you are unable to function as you used to. In fact, you don't feel like your usual self. For instance, are your relationships strained? Do you prefer to be alone and not connect with your loved ones? Are you ignoring text messages and phone calls from friends? Is it difficult for you to take care of your basic needs, like taking a shower or brushing your teeth? Are you finding it difficult to sleep or even eat?
