My Approach to Helping
I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space, in order to meet you at your current level of distress. You may be going through a tough situation or struggling with chronic or recurrent mental illness. With empathy and acceptance, I will sit with you and listen to your story, taking into account your specific physical, psychological and social factors.
My approach focuses on each individual, couple or family's level of discomfort and pain in order to help you to identify the source of the distress and work through it. Treatment includes improving communication skills, identification of feelings and empowering you to make the necessary changes in your life, while working to reduce or eliminate any barriers to progress.
I take an eclectic approach, drawing upon principles of cognitive-behavioral, supportive, solution-focused therapies, family systems and mindfulness theories, as well as bibliotherapy and psychoeducation.
