My Approach to Helping
Recall when you first decided to jump off of a diving board? Jumping off of the diving board is a good metaphor for addressing anxiety. For many children who I work with, my job is to recruit them to make a decision to safely jump into the "pool" of life.
You may recall the loss of a pet. Sadness is natural in such a situation. Grief is like the experience is re-discovering a precious stone. Sometimes I help children to process losses, come to grips with the existential realities of life, and to remember their precious life experiences.
As a Psychologist, I use assessment tools, clinical interviews, observation, and clinical judgement to conceptualize the problem, then carefully formulate a treatment plan. While I take a matter of fact and down to earth approach, I am basing my decisions on a careful analysis of the issues at hand.
