My Approach to Helping
I believe that people have within them a natural driving force toward their full potential. Anything short of this causes blockage, pain, and suffering. My approach is helping to create a safe and respectful environment in which people can explore and experience intimacy and clarify personal meaning in order to remove obstacles and to grow. I am there to support and nurture such a process.
I am passionate about helping people discover the power associated with being heard, accepted, and respected. I appreciate the observing the process of personal unfolding and the surprise and energy that grow from disclosures within trusting, intimate encounters invested for personal growth and well-being. I enjoy challenging shame, anxiety, and doubt, making them conversational friends with one's other half.
Feeling safe with your therapist is a sacred trust and underlies good therapy. I'm sure we have all had experiences where we tell another person something important to us and they counter us with a bigger and better story: how, for example, the person went fishing caught a fish, and one so much bigger than yours. We know this competitive type of relationship dynamic is not therapeutic. This feeling can inform its opposite and what good therapy feels like when someone is genuinely interested in you and when there is someone across from you who is there to support your concerns.
In my work with clients, I draw on my personal work in therapy, but this is not where it stops. While having an interesting story of my own, it does not mean I am an expert of your story. I would like to help you find and develop your story and healthy, whole life.
