My Approach to Helping
I believe counseling is a holistic, healing and empowering process. There are many times throughout our lives when we get stuck in transitions, feelings, or in our own mind. Counseling helps us get comfortable within ourselves. It creates self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-compassion which in turn changes our perspective as we walk through our daily life.
I see counseling as a process in which the client and counselor, having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present challenges, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing a therapist...
First and foremost, the counseling relationship
Make sure you feel comfortable with the therapist. Someone you feel you can be honest, open-minded and willing to work on whatever area of your life that is currently a challenge or presenting an obstacle for you. Make sure their experience and expertise match your presenting issue. Make sure their therapeutic orientation works with you and your personality and beliefs.
Secondly... availability to schedule and location of office
Find a therapist who can see you during a time in your week that works for you and who is in a location that works for you. Scheduling therapy should not create more stress in your day to day life.
Find a therapist that financially works for you as you will most likely be attending therapy sessions weekly.
