My Approach to Helping
Besides really caring about my clients and wanting them to receive the best treatment, I believe in a professional respectful relationship with my clients and believe we are a team working together to meet your goals. I believe a therapist is only as helpful as they are willing to grow themselves. I continue to challenge myself both personally and professionally. Because of this, I am constantly looking to keep up on the best approach that provides the opportunity for the most change and growth, that also uses the most valuable resource of all - the clients own inner wisdom and strengths. I am trained in Imago relationship counseling and Brainspotting and believe these two approaches are cutting edge and have allowed me to help clients to successfully change and empower themselves to heal. Most people have more inner knowledge and truth than they consciously are aware of. They have learned from their upbringing and socialization process to tune themselves out from their own truths. One of my goals is to help people connect to who they are authentically and the true self they were born with.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
The thought of starting therapy for some can be scary and anxiety producing. I believe your therapist's ability to honor this in each and every client , depending on how they uniquely present is very important to building trust and safety. Many clients have not experienced safety , feeling cared about or listened to. My hope is that you will experience a positive ,caring, attuned relationship with me. For most clients this can be one of the main factors in their healing. That being said, I know I am not a perfect match for everyone. If you feel comfortable and safe, therapy can be a place where you can express yourself in a way you have neither felt free to or believed you could. It can be a lab of sorts. I usually encourage my clients to think of practicing with me, the communication, expression of needs and desires of what they'd really like to experience in the most important relationships in their lives. I also educate clients in every way I can, to assist them in understanding how they developed some of the ineffective coping skills or patterns of behavior. A big part of my work is to help a client bring what has been in their subconscious to consciousness. That's when change happens. It doesn't however, mean that therapy will be pain free. I believe pain can be one of the best motivators for true change. Think of a time in your life , when you had a significant challenge. When you look back at that challenge, you usually can see you wouldn't be where you are, or have developed a positive aspect of who you are today without it.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
The duration and frequency of therapy is really dependent on a number of factors. Some of the factors taken into consideration by myself and my client's include: the severity of difficulties and the impact on their life currently; balance of work , family and appointments; amount of responsibility for the cost of counseling out of pocket, motivation at time of seeking counseling, and sometimes the impact on other's like children. Some clients come weekly in the early phases and then move to 2xmonth. Some come 2xmonth initially and then monthly. It may take time and your personal experience to determine how often and how many sessions would be appropriate for you.
