My Approach to Helping
Are you looking for a way to help improve your child's social-emotional skills, which is known to promote success in and out of school? When our children struggle socially , emotional, or academically, their behaviors signify a need for a safe and caring relationship in which to flourish. Research has shown that a relationship with a consistent, caring adult develops a place where optimal learning can occur for children.
As a children's therapist, I take pride in providing your child with that safe relationship where they can express, explore, and learn all about themselves and others. We call this, "Discovering Me." Together, we give space for your child to find himself and flourish in this world. We laugh, we cry, and we discover.
Working with young children, I use a child-directed play therapy approach that shows children that they are ultimately in control, of themselves and their experiences. Children leave feeling heard, understood, hopeful, gritty, and full of the curiosity needed in life.
More Info About My Practice
What makes me significantly different as a therapist is my proactive style of counseling. While working with your child, we process and resolve the emotional, social, or academic issues presented at the time and support these by building upon your child's unique strengths. We not only set goals to relieve the problem, but build on character, social, and emotional skills for your child to feel confident and successful.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
As we go through life, we encounter life's many challenges. We adapt and react the best ways we know how. We know that our experiences have a very important role in shaping ourselves. Making sure that we are developing a well rounded, and well balanced self is important, not only for children, but for adults, as well. During therapy we work to balance your mental, emotional, and physical body systems, making sure that you are living your optimal life. Therapy is about growing and healing during the journey and not rushing towards our destination.
My Therapy Focus
Children communicate through play, the toys are their words, and their actions are their experiences. With the use of play, your child can develop his own resources to successfully solve problems and meet life's challenges. Through play, an intimate form of learning is promoted where your child has the opportunity to develop skills necessary for everyday life. Play therapy will allow your child to change the way he thinks about the world around him. Problems are confronted, mastered, and new skills are practiced, making each session impactful.
