More Info About My Practice

I have a large "tool box", which means, I use many different methods and techniques to help your child, depending on the child's age, developmental level, interests and personality, attentional level and the current issues that are bringing her or him into therapy. My occupational therapy background informs my psychotherapy practice and helps me to see and understand the whole child. The more I understand your child, the more I am able to help you understand and parent your child.

My Therapy Focus

With young children, I believe in figuring out what is causing the problem or behavior, rather than just trying to change it with a reward and punishment or another type of cognitive or behavioral system, which often result in other symptoms emerging or a flare-up of the same symptoms later on. By figuring out what is underlying the behavior and addressing that, the child is able to grow and mature in a healthier way. For example, a child who is hyperactive may actually be anxious; he may be upset; he may be sensorily overstimulated; he may have an immature nervous system or he may have ADHD. My job is to figure out what is going on, to help your child, and then help you, the parent with skills for supporting with your unique child.
