My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
I believe strongly that each person has an inherent capacity for emotional healing similar to the body's physical healing mechanisms. However, past negative experiences or trauma can block access to these inner strengths. During psychotherapy the client and therapist work together in a collaborative process that serves to remove defenses and access the inner strength within the individual. This is when true transformation takes place.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
First, I have a great love for people and believe in the power each person has to change once they have the right tools. Secondly, I receive immense satisfaction from witnessing people's transformation from depresssion, fear, anxiety and self-loathing to joy and peace of mind. If relieving physical suffering is the goal of the medical profession, I think relieving emotional suffering should be the goal of psychotherapy.
