My Approach to Helping
You have great value as a person and deserve to feel that. It's completely normal to feel down, afraid, or inadequate. We all feel this way from time to time. The problem comes in when you have no way to work through and let go of difficult or challenging thoughts and emotions. Therapy is a powerful way for you to develop skills and experience healing so you can live the full life you want to live.
More Info About My Practice
It's no secret, and in fact, it has been said for over a thousand years in a thousand different ways: As we think, so we feel.
The truth is: if we can change our thinking we can change EVERYTHING. We feel better emotionally, we succeed more and accept setbacks without all the drama that sometimes follows. Why then don't more people do it? Is it too late to change? Am I too old to change or too young to be happy? Too broke? In the wrong relationship or no relationship? The answer is simple, but it isn't always easy. We learn a new way to think.
Sounds like a tall order, but everyone is equipped to do it. Everyone has the ability no matter who we are, no matter how much or how little we have, no matter how addicted or how unhappy we feel. Today there's another truth that is also thousands of years old: "This too shall pass", and it will. This is one of the few guarantees in life!
Through coping responses, we learn to adapt our thinking to various situations we've had difficulties in facing. Sometimes those are new, and some of them we've had to face over and over.
In therapy we learn some new ways or things to do that can help us. One of the tricks is that we learn not to apply permanent decisions to temporary problems.
As we practice them, these new ways become second Nature. We internalize some coping mechanisms. Notice in discussing Nature it's been capitalized? Well this is your Nature that you will tap into during therapy. It's nothing new, there's nothing magical about it. No one has to do it for you because it's already part of you. It's your Nature!
