My Approach to Helping
Hello my name is Jorge and I am very excited that you have found my page. I love working with individuals of all ages to help remove those mental and emotional blocks that tend to keep us feeling ""stuck"" in our daily lives.
One of my approaches to therapy is to collaboratively figure out the underlying factors that prevent us from coping in more adaptive manners. For example, rather than solely focusing on the symptoms of anxiety and depression we experience, an emphasis is also placed on exploring the underlying causes of our emotional pain alongside the somatic and physiological symptoms that accompany them. I find that this approach does not simply place a “band-aid” on our pain, but rather, helps us to treat the principal cause which has been found to both create AND maintain a wide range of symptoms, emotional pain, and mood disorders. I utilize a variety of techniques to help you accomplish your treatment goals. I am well-versed in different approaches that include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Relational Therapy, and Eclectic Therapy. Together, I am sure we can rationally and sensibly approach your treatment goals in order to help you live your best life! The first step is sometimes the hardest, but once you decide to take that initial step, I truly look forward to working with you.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley where I majored in Clinical Psychology. I followed this with my doctorate of psychology, in Clinical Psychology, from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. My experiences along the way have allowed me to work with groups, couples, and individuals of all ages in a number of different settings. These settings have included: Cognitive Behavioral therapy centers, middle school, high school, college, forensic neuropsychology practices, pediatric neuropsychology practices, community mental health centers, hospitals, private practices, and high-security state prisons.
