My Approach to Helping

We all get feelings we don't understand. As we grow up, we endure challenges and changes to our bodies, environment, and emotional state while managing the stresses of life. This often leads us to hide or push away feelings (suffer in silence) out of fear of exposing any raw emotions. Learning to manage these emotions is honestly the hardest thing when you're an adolescent-teen because of the expectations as someone's child, friend, and within our own selves. Shutting down or shutting parents out is normal, that's why counseling can be so beneficial during this stage of development. Counseling provides an unbiased arena for the teen to vent frustrations, check out their perspectives and theories and help them communicate more effectively.

More Info About My Practice

Throughout the therapy process, we will work to uncover and recognize skills and strengths, identifying the influences that are shaping you, and learning to make value-guided decisions. It takes time to uncover what makes you unique, what your gifts are, and how to respect and learn from emotions. Counseling offers a protected space for those conversations to take place.

My Role as a Therapist

I am right there with you through the ups and downs of navigating emotions and personal barriers. I utilize talk, art, behavioral, and play therapy to work through emotional and behavioral processes with the family, individual, and parent or caregiver. As you are discovering a unique identity, taking on more and more aspects of adulthood while leaving aspects of childhood behind, and developing independence while maintaining healthy family bonds, you will be supported and guided to make informed deciosn about who you want to become.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

The teenage years are challenging for teens, not to mention their parents. Teens face many new pressures and may not always react in the best ways to the challenges they encounter. Some of the struggles teens face are a normal part of growing up. In some cases, teens and their families may need extra support and guidance to help them deal with and navigate through these challenges.
