My Approach to Helping
I'm a child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapist with experience in various settings, but mostly I have experience with low-income (Medicaid) Hispanic and to a lesser extent, African American youth in a community setting. I prefer face-to-face therapy here in Chicago, but I also do telehealth. Typically, I focus on talents and interests, but also do depth psychology and focus on problems with those clients that are interested in it and have the capacity to self-report those problems. I consider myself adaptive and respond mostly to what the client is open to, though only so long as it meets the criteria for some evidence-based treatment objective. I (mostly) have experience with youth who do poorly in school for behavioral and academic issues and persons with poor social skills and oppositional defiant diagnosis. The rest of the experience is varied, as I have treated people with severe mental illness (think intensive outpatient) and the elderly, not just young people.
