My Approach to Helping
I have over 25 years of experience helping people successfully navigate life's most difficult challenges and realize their dreams. My practice is based on a combination of solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and positive psychology approaches. I provide counseling, psychotherapy, consultation and executive coaching services at my private practice in Colorado's beautiful Vail Valley and internet-based counseling, psychotherapy and executive coaching to clients throughout the entire states of Colorado and Texas, where I am licensed.
Many people are reluctant to try psychotherapy because they don't want to spend a lot of time analyzing their childhoods. Others have said they've talked to a therapist in the past but nothing in their lives really changed from it. My practice is different. I help my clients solve problems and make practical improvements in their lives that will make a difference right now. I've helped countless teens and adults make lasting changes and lead better happier lives.
The right therapist-client match is essential for success. My personal style is warm, supportive, flexible and optimistic. I focus on your individual perspective, unique strengths and personal values as we collaborate in bringing about the changes that will accomplish your goals.
If you are nervous or skeptical about psychotherapy, you may be in for a very pleasant surprise. Most people find talking with someone who can help is much easier than going it alone. If your life is not going as you'd planned, if you have problems you aren't sure you can handle, if you feel sad, angry, irritable, nervous, tense, or worried much of the time, if your relationships are troubled or you're having problems at work or school or if you just want to live a happier, more fulfilling and satisfying life, I'd like to help.

I am pleased to offer state of the art online counseling to people in the entire states of Texas and Colorado, where I am licensed. I use a secure video conferencing platform similar to Skype. Telephone based therapy sessions are also available. Online psychotherapy is effective and very convenient, particularly for busy professionals, people who travel frequently, home-bound individuals, those who don't drive, people with disabilities or medical illnesses that limit their mobility or those who simply prefer to hold their psychotherapy sessions from the comfort of their own homes. It's also a great alternative for people who live in rural or remote locations. In addition, online or telephone based services makes my expertise available to clients in a broad geographical area. All that is required for online psychotherapy is a computer with a microphone, webcam and high-speed internet connection. Appointments for online sessions can be made by telephone or email.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I see individuals, couples and families with problems related to major life changes, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, marital conflict, parenting concerns, women's issues, school performance, work challenges, financial stress, achieving personal excellence, and coping with disability and medical illness. I have particular expertise in working with highly intelligent, gifted, talented and creative individuals, sensitive and intuitive people and successful professionals, such as executives, physicians, attorneys, scientists, engineers, computer programmers, college professors, and entrepreneurs. I also provide consultation services to organizations, family businesses and medical practices. Another specialty area for me is providing psychotherapy to other psychotherapists.
I am also a nationally recognized expert in health and rehabilitation psychology. I've got years of experience helping people with disabilities like spinal cord injury, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and amputations. I've also helped numerous patients cope with fibromyalgia, diabetes, cancer, cardiac problems, and auto-immune disorders like lupus.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to provide a secure comfortable place for people to explore personal issues, solve problems, examine assumptions, increase self-understanding, consider new perspectives, change dysfunctional patterns, learn new coping strategies, find their strengths, overcome their weaknesses and create the happy healthy life they want. A good therapist is a guide, a teacher and a gentle but unflinching mirror. Psychotherapy is about both insight and measurable change. In my opinion, the goal of psychotherapy is to help you find the best way to play the "hand" that life has dealt to you.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I feel privileged and honored to do the work I do. I love helping the people who I see understand themselves better and be gentler and more accepting towards themselves while at the same time confronting their issues and making actual changes in their lives. I love doing meaningful work that helps make the world a better place for all of us.
