My Approach to Helping
Everyone heals from pain, loss, and life's challenges in different ways, at his or her own pace. I use a variety of traditional talk therapy techniques, along with art therapy, as desired, to help you improve your sense of self, your relationships, overall mood and well-being.
It may not always feel like it, but there is always something in your power, no matter how incrementally small, that can start the process of change. I believe everyone deserves to know what it is like to feel appreciated, loved, valued, understood and heard, and experience healthy, fulfilling connections with yourself and others you care about. Learning to identify and express your needs in ways others can listen, healing from from a history of loss or traumatic events, is possible when you have someone to guide you through the process.
My style is interactive and client centered, meaning I will tailor treatment to suit your needs as appropriate, and pay attention to cues to let me know the pace and depth to address issues during your therapy. I believe your history and life experience is important in understanding what shaped and affects who you are today. I'll guide you to explore and address beliefs, feelings, situations and circumstances, and look at patterns in your life that may not be working anymore, while identifying strengths, resources, and developing tools to become more resilient, hopeful and strong.

More Info About My Practice
One of the treatment methods I use is Art therapy. It isn't about creating pretty pictures. It provides a way to see and understand what is going on inside you when feelings and thoughts are painful, unclear, or hard to find the words to express. Art making helps to illuminate deep internal experiences, allows for distance to be created from pain so it can be looked at from new perspectives, opening possibilities for empathy and healing to occur.

I really love helping families and people in all kinds of relationships repair old wounds so they can grow. I love helping couples reconnect (or to decide how to move forward), attune to each other's needs, so they can enjoy more emotional and physical intimacy, and model loving, respectful, healthy relationships for their families. When parents feel better, kids are more calm, it is much easier to bridge gaps in communication between generations! With kids, often issues from growing-up angst is caused by their inability to identify their feelings, needs or effectively express them with others. I help them look at sources of feelings, patterns of behaviors, their strengths and personal resources, so they have tools to make better choices and experience less drama.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
The therapeutic alliance, is a relationship, and a mirror, both are vital to growth. You will learn to see and accept yourself in the context of how I relate to you, based on how you relate to me, and you hopefully will gain a better idea of how you feel about yourself while alone, and in the presence of another person. Therapy is a dynamic growth process, that shifts and adjusts as different issues arise. The special thing about the therapeutic relationship is, that despite differences in opinions, beliefs, choices (unless safety or ethical limitations are violated), the relationship isn't severed. Therapy is a place to learn and practice having a stronger, healthier relationship with yourself and others for the outside world. I believe everything experienced in the room is an opportunity for reflection, growth and change. Boundaries and limits are often tested and established. Mistakes, fears, misunderstandings and challenges are examined, understood and embraced. Perceived flaws, oversights or weaknesses are accepted. And, successes are acknowledged and celebrated.
