My Approach to Helping
You want to feel happy but it seems like something is holding you back, am I right? I can help you get "unstuck" from anxiety, fear or uncertainty. We will partner together to help you find emotional freedom, peace, and joy.
I believe in the importance of using evidence-based treatment approaches so that you have the best possible chance of getting better. I've worked hard to learn specific types of therapy that help with trauma/PTSD, anxiety, stress and a variety of other things you may be going through. I am constantly reading the latest literature and will explain to you not only the type of approach I am using but why I think that approach will be helpful.
Each person is different and the most important thing is that you benefit from our time together. Therefore, I am also flexible in my approach. If for any reason you don't feel like our sessions are helpful, we'll re-evaluate and look at other ways of working together that might help.
My office is a comfortable, safe space for you to begin your healing journey. Our lobby is stocked with both hot and cold beverages for you to sip on during our sessions as well as calming activities (magazines, adult coloring pages, etc) for you to engage in while you wait. I often run an essential oil diffuser in my office, have chosen comfy chairs and keep a stockpile of "fidget" items nearby.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I specialize in helping clients who have experienced traumatic stress find healing and move forward. Maybe you're a survivor of sexual violence (rape, assault, childhood abuse, etc), you've been in a car accident or seen upsetting things at work. I am trained in two different evidence-based treatments for PTSD and have spent my career learning how to help people find healing after something seems to knock them down.
I also specialize in working with college-age adults. I have had clients from all of the local universities and love helping college students who are struggling to adjust, worried about life after graduation, feeling anxious or depressed. This is a unique period in your life and I want to help you make the most of it!
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I love watching people transform and find healing. My favorite part of therapy is that first "aha" moment when you realize that you are feeling "better." When a client comes in smiling and telling me they had a great week, I can't help but smile myself!
I am passionate about my work and believe in the power of counseling. I have seen so many people find healing and happiness. It is that belief and the memory of all my past clients that keeps me excited to go to work each and every day.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
All of the research about what "works" in therapy emphasizes the importance of having a strong client-therapist alliance. In other words, you have to feel like you can trust your therapist. I also know that my personality isn't a match for everyone. I offer a free consultation for every new potential client so that you and I can get a feel for each other's personality before we commit to working together. I want to make sure you feel like I'm someone you could open up to and speak to. I often check in with clients to make sure we're still on the same page so you can feel good doing the hard work of therapy.
