My Approach to Helping

Many of the challenges we face in life are more common than we ever could imagine. At the times we feel most alone we are often unaware of the support and the direction that may be available to help us. Sharing your personal life with someone might seem very difficult at first - and you might have questions or concerns about the process. I'd be happy to talk with you about your goals, need, and concerns, to see if we might work effectively together. I believe that my job is to stay current on research and effective counseling methods so that I have a range of options to offer you. However your goals, personality, likes, and dislikes will help us choose the direction of therapy, and know when we have accomplished what you want to accomplish. I'd be happy to meet you and create a path forward together.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I bring years of experience working with couples around the many issues that couples face. Couples can make amazing changes! Often couples don't realize that every relationship faces challenges, annoyances, and differences. Couple counseling is a great place to work on creating more intimacy, enjoyment, and shared ability to navigate stressful moments. I enjoy helping each couple find its own unique way of working and loving well together.

I also work with many individuals who are facing anxiety, depression, work concerns, relationship challenges, parenting issues, and stress. You might be surprised to know that while we explore feelings and make practical plans in counseling, we also laugh together as we find ways to practice new habits and new ways of thinking and being. Many of the individuals I see benefit from using relaxation techniques like mindfulness, clinical hypnosis, or guided imagery. Others set specific goals, such as addressing particular upsetting incidents from the past, or handling an upcoming situation well.

I also enjoy working with families. We are all so influenced by our families, and sometimes we need to have some support with challenging issues. Families do well in counseling when everyone knows that their voice is important, and they will be treated with dignity and respect.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Some people are seeking direction, ideas, and a structure to make change happen. Others may need a venue where things will be kept fair, and everyone's interests will be respected. Some people might even feel stuck, and not even know where to begin. Your opinion, goals, and needs, are important. One of my jobs is to keep checking that we are using our time in a way that is helpful to you.
