My Approach to Helping

My 20 years of clinical experience have helped me understand that clients need to hear that they make sense, and that they're not crazy. Everyone experiences pain. We all face challenges. You want to understand that pain so you can find ways to cope.

We humans have a knack for finding self-defeating ways of coping with our pain. Whatever you face, I can help you navigate the challenge. My guiding belief in therapy is that, "It is the relationship that heals," (Yalom). You make sense. You're not crazy, and you don't have to walk through this alone.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

As a woman, I've personally experienced moments when I feel I can never meet society's standards. Perfectionism is exhausting. Whether you're a teen trying to understand the world, a college student trying to figure out life, a new mother, or a woman seeking to find or rediscover her voice, let me help.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I haven't met anyone yet who "enjoys" being vulnerable, and when we are in pain, we feel vulnerable. There is no magic bridge "across" our pain to the other side. Therapy is hard work, and it often feels like it gets worse before it gets better because we are digging into painful issues. So why do it?

While there is no magic bridge to carry us "across" our pain to a pain free other side, therapy, and specifically the right therapeutic relationship, allows us to walk "through" the pain with support and guidance. Therapy is empowering. It helps us build skills and develop a deeper understanding our ourselves and the things in our lives which have impacted each of us. With a greater understanding of these things, we are empowered to move forward and create the life we seek.
