My Approach to Helping
Hello. My name is Jeffrey Carter, a licensed professional counselor and the owner of WalkinTalkinTherapy. I am a skilled therapist who has pursued post-graduate studies in addiction counseling . I have spent the past 15+ years working with individuals to assist in exploring their lives, addressing areas of discomfort or concern and ultimately finding solutions for improving their overall mental health and physical well-being.
I recognize that each individual is different and challenged with their own set of specific needs and struggles. I offer a wide diversity of interventions, using educational solutions and therapy that ensure a client gets the right therapeutic intervention to meet his or her needs. Many of the therapy sessions can be held outdoors, walking local hiking paths. I do have an office if one prefers a little more traditional setting. Pairing the outdoors and physical activity with therapy fosters a relaxed environment in which growth and change can occur.
More Info About My Practice
WalkinTalkinTherapy offers a unique approach that assists individuals in becoming more aware of current behaviors and thought processes. While scientists have long known that exercise can temporarily boost serotonin levels and improve mood, the latest research shows it can have a deeper and more lasting effect when combined with talk therapy. Advocates of the combined approach say that being active during the session helps clients to relax and open up. If a client is interested in a more traditional setting, my office is located in Glenside, PA

How Psychotherapy Can Help
A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as substance abuse or dependence (alcohol and drugs), depression, anxiety and fear, adjustment concerns, trauma and PTSD, relationship issues, grief and loss, sexuality concerns, spiritual conflict, and early childhood abuse.
Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn in session.
