My Approach to Helping
My first goal in therapy is to give you back your hope and resiliency. Whether you are suffering through a current crisis or coping with a long-term pain, I believe you have the ability to make a significant change quickly. Many people start therapy with a feeling of overwhelm or helplessness. They have tried everything they know to create a change they want. In the first session I focus on getting you some immediate relief by breaking things down, gaining perspective, teaching you some new techniques, and giving you some new methods, behaviors or words to experiment with in your life and relationships.
More Info About My Practice
I often work with people in relationships that are causing them some pain. Most of the time one person in the relationship is ready for change before the other person is. When one person seeks counseling, the relationship changes. I love to teach people how to change the dance they are doing in a relationship and then watch how their partner changes too. Many times the partner sees positive changes in the relationship and is then ready to come to counseling too.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
Therapy is not just about having someone listen to your problems. As a therapist I want to listen for your insights, limiting beliefs, destructive self-talk, innate solutions, deepest desires and mistaken interpretations. I help you hear the unconscious negative messages you give yourself, and the unconscious thoughts and beliefs that impede your growth.
