My Approach to Helping
Carl Rogers once said: "The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination."
However, sometimes the process is difficult and the direction unsure. When you're feeling like life is just too much of a struggle, or you're feeling lost or overwhelmed, or just having trouble connecting to your loved one, having someone you truly connect with who will empower you toward personal growth and healing can lead you to the peace and joy you desire.
Life is too short to suffer silently. Imagine breaking free from the chains of the anxiety, depression, stress, & emotional pain you are carrying with you! Everyone's story matters. Let's explore your story so you can have the growth and healing you deserve.
I earned both a Master of Science and a Specialist degree in Counseling & Human Systems: Mental Health Counseling from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. In addition, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and I hold board certification with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) as a National Certified Counselor ™ (NCC ®) which was obtained in 2002.
I have a variety of experiences in the counseling field over the course of 10 years, including individual, couples and family counseling, crisis counseling, and group therapy. Specific areas of clinical experience include depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, trauma, PTSD, substance-abuse disorders and addiction, issues related to dysfunctional family systems, anger issues, domestic violence and abuse.
I have an eclectic approach to counseling with a strong reliance on cognitive behavioral therapy which focuses on how your beliefs and inner self-talk interact with your feelings and behaviors. In addition, I also employ other therapeutic approaches including emotionally focused therapy, schema therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, written exposure therapy for trauma, and cognitive processing therapy for trauma.
Counseling services will be provided to Michigan residents via telehealth using a HIPPA-compliant and secure video conferencing software for therapists.
