My Approach to Helping
Are you feeling overwhelmed or stressed out these days? Are you having a difficult time coping or feeling like you are barely holding it together? Are you feeling all alone in life with no one to turn to for support and empathy?
If so, I am pleased that you are reading this and possibly taking the first steps to work on your mental health wellbeing. I absolutely believe that anyone can benefit from therapy no matter their age, race, or gender. Now is the time to allow yourself self-care and the opportunity to explore your emotions. Life experiences shape your thoughts, opinions, and emotions that have an impact on how you function and cope in life. When your life experiences include financial concerns or poverty, trauma, chaos, abuse, neglect, drugs/alcohol abuse or addiction, domestic violence, or overwhelming stress, the emotional outcomes can seem unbearable or too much of a challenge for you to manage on your own. We all have challenges in life, let us face your challenges together. I am here to help you to function to the best of your ability and to help you overcome your challenges bringing peace of mind and calm into your life. Please know we are in this together and together we can improve your mental health and overall wellness. I received a Bachelor of Science in Developmental Psychology from Mills College in Oakland CA. and a Master's in Clinical Social work from California State University, Long Beach. Since that time, I gained a License in Clinical Social work in the state of California in 2007. I am an experienced Behavior Specialist with a long-demonstrated history of working in the mental health care industry. I have 25 years of experience working with diverse populations in both large cities and rural areas. I provide therapy for individuals that are just feeling overwhelmed in the moment or by their current situation. In addition, I assist clients with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), and learning differences. I have certifications in trauma care, pain management, and integrated care which emphasizes the importance of mind and body together. I have experience working with teenagers, adults, veterans, first responders, and law enforcement. I worked extensively in conjunction with alcohol and other drug (AOD) counselors for an outpatient medication-assisted treatment (MAT) (Suboxone) program. I have extensive work experience in both Mental Health and Integrated Care.
I work from a strengths-based and self-empowerment approach to enrich one’s life. I believe in a person-centered approach, meeting clients where they are emotionally. In addition, I utilize motivational interviewing skills, rational emotive behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Your goals are what are important to me and will be the foundation of our therapeutic journey together. I understand that it can be difficult to ask for help and recognize the courage that it takes. No matter what struggle you are facing, I hope it is one that we can work on together. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
