My Approach to Helping
Hello! It’s good to see you! I’m Janel McDonald and my goal is to provide you with compassion. non-judgemental. empathetic care. It is my goal to ease your feelings of apprehension and provide you with a safe and comfortable place to discuss your purpose in seeking counseling services. I served in the military for 22 years and have experience working with both military veterans and civilians through some of the most challenging transitions in their lives.
My specialty is to guide you through the areas of your life that are interfering with living your best life. I work often with individuals with addiction, traumaPTSD, depressionBi-Polar, anxiety, and personality disordersBorderline. I also have extensive experience working with women’s health issues including sexual trauma, infertility, and peripost-menopause.
Since each of us is unique, I draw from a combination of research-based techniques: Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Gestalt Therapy.
