My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, with over twenty-five years of working with and treating clients who struggle with self-destructive behaviors such as substance use and abuse, anger, domestic violence, and other addictive behaviors. I also have extensive experience working with clients who are on probation, parole, or recent release from incarceration due to self-destructive behaviors and decisions. The opportunity has been mine to also work with family members, with their own set of needs, as their family members and loved ones experience these self-destructive behaviors and struggles.
My focus is to assist the individual, and or family members, to identify the self-destructive behavior and its effects and consequences, learn from and about the effects of the behavior and make different choices and plans for change. This is done through assisting the client in the discovery of their strengths, building support systems, education, and exploration of the behaviors, and developing healthy lifestyle choices that are the foundation for success. I also incorporate the client’s spiritual beliefs into the treatment protocol to thoroughly address their needs.
I have a strong passion, for utilizing a client-centered approach to assist my clients through Motivational Interviewing, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, therapeutic education, and thought processing to accomplish this change and growth. If I can assist you in this journey, please allow me the opportunity to talk with you to see if there is a way that I may be able to assist you.
