My Approach to Helping
My name is James Hunter, MS, LPC, LCDC. I am 54 years old and I have 26 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have worked in various levels of care, from intensive inpatient, supported residential treatment programs, and outpatient treating a wide range of mental health symptoms. I specialize in cognitive and behavioral psychotherapies, reality therapy, solution-focused therapy, existential approaches, substance use issues/addiction counseling, and other modalities modified to your needs. I have experience working with and treating mood issues such as depression and anxiety-type conditions with evidence-based treatment modalities.
My approach can be very genuine, direct, and honest, and while I may not always tell you "what you want to hear," I will provide feedback based on what is best to hear to help improve your insight into your problems. My counseling/therapy style may not be for everyone. If you are ready to make changes and are seeking honesty, logic, and a solution-focused approach, then I may be a good fit for you. I believe in a total wellness approach to treating mental health conditions and life issues that considers the larger picture of health: mental, emotional, physical, social, relationships, spiritual, environmental, and occupational or sense of purpose. I understand that adopting a new lifestyle and healthier habits can present challenges and often at times may seem difficult. My goal is to assist you with improving your mental health, well-being, overall health as a person, and with developing healthy patterns of thinking and healthier behaviors/coping mechanisms while helping you gain insight into your psychology and development. I am ready to assist you with: adjustment to life issues, codependency/relationships, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, feeling overwhelmed by life, stress, toxic relationships, and more.
