My Approach to Helping
James Clementi is a Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) who is passionate about healing emotional pain through building a strong therapeutic relationship. James’ approach to therapy is based on active listening, providing empathy and creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients can be supported and given the freedom to explore their emotions and experiences. James believes that each of us holds the solutions within ourselves to achieve desired changes and results in our lives. As such, James’ role in the therapeutic relationship is to help you discover your own answers and truths while offering a different perspective to talk it all through with.
James has worked with college students, young professionals and adults dealing with trauma, grief, addiction, LGBTQ issues, career uncertainty, and relationship issues.
James takes an eclectic approach to counseling which draws heavily on Person-Centered Therapy and Relational-Cultural Therapy, while also incorporating Multicultural Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness techniques.
James holds his M.A. and Ed.M. degrees in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University.
