My Approach to Helping
I believe that a healthy therapeutic relationship with the catalyst for change. I focus on assuring my clients feel the counseling setting is a safe place. I believe counseling can be tough and sometimes feel painful, but I love to use humor and hope to have a good time in the process of help clients reach their goals.
I have experience working in private practice treating families, couples, and ages 4 years old on up. I also have experience as a counselor in a residential adult substance abuse setting as well as managed care. I encourage holistic health and may encourage you to develop a relationship with your medical provider to assure your physical health can support your optimum mental health.
I have a rat terrier/Chihuahua named Little Papa, turtle named Sweet Pea and enjoy home gardening!

I have a BS in sports management from the University of Illinois - Champaign Urbana. I later discovered counseling was a better fit and I went on to complete my MA in marriage and family counseling from Governors State University. I am a licensed professional counselor who utilizes solution-focused therapy, emotional focused therapy, and attachment theory. I value the therapeutic relationship as the catalyst for change and take strength-based approaches to empower independence. My approach has been described as a velvet glove over an iron fist. I take a gentle approach to clinical challenges to promote change.
