My Approach to Helping
Living through a traumatic or distressing experience can change how you feel about yourself and the world around you. And it takes so much energy to hide how you're really feeling or to stay silent about something that’s happened to you. Opening up about how you're struggling can be difficult. But remaining silent and trying to keep up the appearance that everything is okay is exhausting.
I provide trauma informed psychotherapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for women who are coping with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or history of trauma, including childhood abuse (sexual, physical and emotional) and neglect, sudden loss. I also work with new and expectant moms experiencing anxiety, depression, or traumatraumatic stress connected to pregnancy and postpartum.
As your therapist, I'll work with you to find ways to calm and support yourself through your challenges or distress, help you discover and build up your strengths, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. My goal is to help you learn to manage your emotions and distressing thoughts so that you can think more clearly, make decisions more easily, and heal what's hurting.

Even when traumatic events are years behind you, you may find yourself struggling to make sense of how you're feeling and frustrated with your efforts to cope. Trauma can impact the most fundamental aspects of day to day living, leaving you more vulnerable to depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress. You may be engaging in destructive behaviors or catch yourself repeating painful patterns in your relationships.
My priority is to work with you to develop a safe, supportive relationship so that you can acknowledge your feelings and experiences, no matter what they are. Therapy can be a safe place to help you understand how trauma and abuse have impacted you and your relationships. Issues that are commonly addressed are learning coping skills and grounding techniques to manage overwhelming emotions and troublesome symptoms; examining how trauma is effecting your relationship with yourself and others; and exploring the meanings you connect to your experiences.
I regard you as the expert on you, and partner with you in deciding the best approach to take in your healing. My work always includes providing new coping skills and strengthening self care in order to support the deeper exploration of your experiences. To help you make meaningful changes and reach your goals, I offer traditional talk therapy as well as EMDR.
