My Approach to Helping

I will help you to reconnect with what is right and good, and help you to put find meaning in the chaos! Here to listen and help you make sense of what is not working in your life, I offer you the opportunity to slow down enough to gain insight and find meaning in what is and what is not working in your life. Supporting you in discovering your inner resources, and developing trust in yourself along with identifying what your capacities are is at the heart of my therapeutic approach. We will collaborate and explore what it looks like to value, and care for yourself, building your self-acceptance, and self-compassion in small actionable steps. Clarifying your intentions for growth and change along with committing to yourself over and over again as you show up for yourself in therapy naturally sets new and healthier patterns into motion.

There is a brilliantly intelligent connection between your body and mind, which underlies all of your past and present experiences, your healing and your growth. I will help you to become better acquainted with yourself, encouraging you to listen a little deeper, and to slow down just a little bit more so that all of you feels heard, received, respected, and honored. Together we will navigate the doubts, scary thoughts, emotions, and the feelings that come unbidden and wreak havoc in your world. We demystify the root causes and influences that are unique to you and your story, experiences that have created stress and dis-ease in your body, mind and spirit so that you can move forward with a better grasp of who you are, where you come from, and just what you wish to create for yourself now.

More Info About My Practice

Whether you want to learn how to deal with your anxiety in more effective ways, overcome a difficult habit, resolve intrusive thoughts or painful traumatic memories, or are looking to improve relationships, I will help you find more peace of mind, meaning and satisfaction in your life. My background is steeped in creativity, dance and art, which saved my life as a very troubled teen and young adult. Practicing mindfulness and awareness helped me to redefine who I was and what my purpose in life was, improving the quality of my life by teaching me patience, presence, and compassion. I use evidence based techniques from EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, along with Body-Mind, Somatic, and neuro-informed and creativity based approaches to meet you where you are and help you reach your goals. My gentle approach is positive, client centered, and empowering.

Self regulation is the ability to respond and adapt to the situations in life with a degree of flexibility and presence in thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Resiliency and adaptability is deeply imbedded in the autonomic nervous system (ANS). We know more about this now than ever before. It is speculated that approximately 80% of all health conditions are nervous system related. Without taking the time to reset on a nervous system level, it becomes more and more commonplace to move through life with a certain level of dis-regulation and distress without knowing why or what to do about it. The circumstances surrounding trauma and our general cultural attitudes do not often support the full completion and reset needed for the ANS to function as effectively as it is designed to do. We end up with layers of activation and "unfinished business" which has not had a chance to discharge and reset. The good news is that the ANS can be reset to its natural range of function with a little dedication and TLC. In therapy sessions we work directly with the body and mind to bring balance and resiliency back to the ANS and I teach effective exercises empowering my clients to practice self regulation in daily life.

What I love about being a therapist is that I get to hear your story and reflect back the strength, courage and potential I see in you. It is such an honor to be on a healing journey with a person, and to be witness to each person's self discovery. It takes bravery to reach out for support and to show up for yourself in this way, and I love reminding my clients about how brave they are and how I can see them doing their very best every day. Much of the deepest transformation happens in almost microscopic baby steps. I am here to believe in you when you have forgotten how.
