My Approach to Helping
I work with self-acceptance, compassion and small actions, which are necessary for your healing and growth. When you make the reconnect to your inner resources, regain perspective and clarify your intentions change begins to happen as if all on it's own. The body and mind are brilliantly interconnected in exquisitely unique ways within each of us. Learning to navigate your inner landscape and consciously engage with the obstacles in your life leads to empowerment as well as improved mental and physical health. If you are ready to feel better and move forward in your life, I look forward to hearing from you!
More Info About My Practice
Whether you are seeking to overcome an addictive habit, deal with unresolved trauma, or improve your relationships, I can help you find peace of mind, meaning and satisfaction in life again. I work with mindfulness and presence, and teach you how to use short and simple tools to regain your foothold when emotions and life circumstances have you spinning. Learn how to better understand your state of mind as you shift in and out of emotional states, and shift from agitated states of mind into more relaxed and centered states. This is called self regulation, which is an important part of healing trauma and PTSD and other social and emotional conditions. My gentle approach is effective, utilizing universal mind-body principles and reliable neuropsychology treatment.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Self regulation is the ability to respond and adapt to the situations in life with a degree of flexibility and presence in thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Resiliency and adaptability is deeply imbedded in the autonomic nervous system (ANS). We know more about this now than ever before. It is speculated that approximately 80% of all health conditions are nervous system related. Without taking the time to reset on a nervous system level, it becomes more and more commonplace to move through life with a certain level of dis-regulation and distress without knowing why or what to do about it. The circumstances surrounding trauma and our general cultural attitudes do not often support the full completion and reset needed for the ANS to function as effectively as it is designed to do. We end up with layers of activation and "unfinished business" which has not had a chance to discharge and reset. The good news is that the ANS can be reset to its natural range of function with a little dedication and TLC. In therapy sessions we work directly with the body and mind to bring balance and resiliency back to the ANS and I teach effective exercises empowering my clients to practice self regulation in daily life.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
What I love about being a therapist is that I get to hear your story and reflect back the strength, courage and potential I see in you. It is such an honor to be on a healing journey with a person, and to be witness to each person's self discovery. It takes bravery to reach out for support and to show up for yourself in this way, and I love reminding my clients about how brave they are and how I can see them doing their very best every day. Much of the deepest transformation happens in almost microscopic baby steps. I am here to believe in you when you have forgotten how.
