My Approach to Helping
I enjoy using the Person-centered approach, as it assists the client in personal growth and self-acceptance. I strongly believe in the importance of a positive client-to-counselor relationship. Without said relationship, therapy may not be as beneficial for the client. I refrain from judging my clients, as we all have our own journeys through life. I also avoid giving advice, because my role as a therapist is to help the client process the obstacle(s) they are having and to ultimately make their own conclusion(s) about any given situation. Furthermore, I also believe that having empathy towards clients is crucial, which is why it is one of the core values of my approach. I also like to incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into sessions, because I feel that if we can challenge distorted thoughts, it then provides us with a better opportunity to alter our behaviors for the better.
