The foundation of the therapeutic relationship is unconditional positive regard. In order to provide a safe environment for clients to open up and share their most personal thoughts and feelings, I begin with a compassionate approach. This means I put myself in the client's shoes and work at their pace allowing them to experience complete healing that is personalized to them. I use evidence-based practice to ensure ethical practice allowing clients to begin to experience relief in the shortest amount of time. Client's create personalized treatment goals and intentionally work toward achieving objectives to resolve their issues in a way that is most effective for them.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I am thankful to have lived a life full of ups and downs which has contributed to my calling into this helping profession. Struggles and challenges develop a compassionate person which is what makes me a great therapist. I have been able to learn from these experiences on both an emotional and intellectual level, giving me education I could never have obtained in graduate school.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

The stigmatization of mental health is one of the greatest barriers to treatment for those who need help. People are made up of life experience, genetics, social factors, spirituality, and more which are integral in shaping core beliefs that drive thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In addition, mental health disorders are no different than other medical diagnoses and do not define the value and worth of a person. The combination of biological, psychological, and social problems a person has is what makes them unique and worth fighting for. My clients are treated with dignity and respect. I focus on problem solving as well as harm and symptom reduction allowing the client to heal in a safe and secure environment.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

The client-therapist relationship is important because it determines the level of interaction the client will engage in. Clients who are engaged in the process will receive better results, faster, than those who remain guarded and resistant to talk about the details and root of the problem. Clients working with me should expected to be treated with kindness, compassion, and dignity. They should expect to work on their problems at their pace and within their boundaries. In this environment, clients should expect to leave each session with a sense of "lightness" or relief and should plan to learn skills that will allow them to become self-sufficient in solving future challenges with what they have learned, eliminating the need for on-going therapy.
