Guy Morganstein is a Licensed Professional Counselor, with more than 35 years experience and has extensive training in mental health treatment. His training includes Family Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EFT Meridian Tapping, conflict resolution skills, relaxation and stress management.

"I have been working in the mental health and substance abuse field for most of my adult life. This journey started for me in high school, when I completed an internship at a community mental health center. After 10 years of working in the field, I went back to school and got my Masters degree in Counseling from Tennessee State University in 1996 . Over time, I have worked in diverse settings, including several years as a school-based counselor at Enka Middle and High Schools, as well as Hominy Elementary."

For over a decade Guy worked in a home-based counseling program, focusing on helping families avoid removal of children due to their own delinquency, or abuse and neglect from a parent. Also, he worked at large community mental health facilities, including the Blue Ridge Center and New Vista Behavioral Health Center in Asheville, NC. For many years he facilitated anger management and domestic violence groups, as well as substance abuse groups.

Guy Morganstein will allow you to feel comfortable while working on issues that are tough. He is compassionate, warm & non-judgmental.

Guy Morganstein is a provider for Medicaid, NC Health Choice, Blue CrossBlue Shield, United Health Care, United Behavior Health, Cigna, MedCost, as well as Crescent insurance. He also offers an affordable income-based sliding fee scale. He can often see patients within one or two days of referral. Sorry, Medicare cannot be accepted.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Some of my main areas of expertise are working with people with anger management, anxiety and stress problems. I utilize a variety of techniques including EFT Energy Tapping (based on acupuncture, you tap certain points, which reduces or extinguishes anxiety, trauma memories, and many other problems, often in just a few minutes), Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and relaxation skills training in addressing these issues.
Another focus of my practice is working with couples and families in conflict. I have been trained in Family Systems Therapy, conflict resolution, and communication skills. For over ten years I provided in-home family preservation services to help families avoid one or more of their children from being placed out of the home, due to abuse, neglect, or delinquency.
I have also worked a lot with those having substance abuse or addiction issues, having worked in the past in substance abuse specific programs, and have facilitated DWI and substance abuse groups.
i also have had extensive experience working with people with depression, anxiety, or other mood issues over my thirty years in the mental health field.
People I work with tell me that I am warm and compassionate, nonjudgmental, and make them feel comfortable, even while working on difficult issues.
