My Approach to Helping
At HRI, we specialize in Couples Therapy. I actively work with couples struggling with conflict, disconnection, infidelity, sexintimacy and parenting. If you really want to get to know me, read some of my advice columns on my blog, TheCouplesCouch. Even better, subscribe. Just click on "Visit Website" at the bottom of this page. I am very invested in results and my approach is far from passive. Most of the people who come to see me are looking for guidance, not just empathic listening. While empathy, safety and trust are critical to the therapeutic process, they alone rarely lead to change. I think most of my current and past clients would tell you that their experience in therapy exceeded their expectations. To the men who may be reading this: I am a man-friendly therapist. I get men. I understand men. I am married to a manly man. Don't be afraid of therapy. You are going to feel way more comfortable than you imagine.
The initial sessions are assessment, history taking and getting our arms around the core issues. From this, we create a blueprint for working together and solving problems. We set goals and discuss specific strategies for achieving them. I am actively listening, teaching and coaching in every session.
More Info About My Practice
You can find more details (including patient reviews) about me and my practice by visiting my website. I see clients Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:30. Sessions are typically 60 minutes and range from $110 to $165. I also offer 90 minute sessions for individuals, couples or families who require more time. I am not in-network for insurance providers but can help you file an out-of-network provider claim. With most insurance companies, this is a fairly simple process. I see individuals, couples and families.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am trained in 3 major models for working with couples: Gottman, EFT and PEX. All three methodologies were designed to help couples deal with communication, emotional disconnection, infidelity, feeling checked-out of the relationship and getting unstuck from chronic bad patterns. I am not a generalist who also sees individuals for other issues, I only see couples. Many people have had unhelpful experiences in marriage counseling, most likely because the counselor was insufficiently trained in the complexities of working with 2 people in the room. I am a supervisor and also teach other therapists how to work with couples. I am passionate about this work because our marriage is one of (if not the biggest) contributor to our personal happiness. What I have found is that most people don't know how to be married. No one ever taught us how and most of us didn't have great parental role models for a healthy marriage. If you want to save your marriage or just be more happily married, make an appointment. Stop thinking about it and do it. You can schedule appointments directly from this page :) Look for the tab that says "Book An Appointment".
